Bike Service: Small Maintenance, Big Impact
Many problems don’t arise suddenly, but develop over time. With regular bike maintenance, wear and tear, safety hazards, and costly repairs can often be identified early on. Find out why professional maintenance is worth it and what you should look out for.
Why Regular Bike Maintenance Is Important
Whether it’s a mountain bike, an e-bike, or an everyday bike—every bicycle is exposed to different stresses during use. Dirt, moisture, temperature fluctuations, and daily use cause components to wear out over time.
The first signs often go unnoticed for a long time. A slightly worn chain, reduced braking performance, or a loose headset aren’t always immediately apparent. If these issues are caught early, major damage can often be prevented.
Greater safety on every trip
Brakes, tires, and the drivetrain are among the most important safety-critical components of a bike. Especially when riding off-road or on longer tours in the Engadin, your bike needs to perform reliably.
During a service, safety-critical components are inspected and, if necessary, adjusted or replaced. This way, you can rely on your bike and focus entirely on the riding experience.
Detect wear early
Many repairs become significantly more expensive if wear-and-tear parts are replaced too late. A good example is a bicycle chain: if it is replaced in a timely manner, the cassette and chainrings often last longer. If, on the other hand, you wait too long, the entire drivetrain can be affected.
Regular maintenance helps identify such signs of wear early on and avoid subsequent costs.
Especially important for e-bikes
E-bikes are subjected to greater stress than conventional bicycles. Because of the motor assistance, greater forces act on the drivetrain, gears, and brakes.
That is why it is advisable to have e-bikes inspected regularly. In addition to the mechanical components, software versions, motor mountings, and other system-specific aspects can also be checked during these inspections.
When should a bike be serviced?
One service is particularly recommended:
Before the start of the biking season
after heavy off-road use
before long rides or cycling vacations
if you hear unusual noises or experience shifting problems
at least once a season
If you maintain your bike regularly, you’ll benefit in the long run from greater reliability and a longer service life for its components.
